Services Development

Development

The Enotrac engineers are specialists in the field of electrical engineering, from a subsystem to the entire train. They develop the appropriate hardware and software. The result is future-oriented and sustainable solutions.

  • Engineering for the modernisation of existing vehicles as well as for the construction of new vehicles is one of Enotrac’s core competencies. Enotrac has been responsible for a large number of often very extensive projects in both areas. These include flagship projects such as the modernisation of the HGe 4/4 II locomotive of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway.

Enotrac offers a comprehensive range of services in the field of rolling stock engineering:

    • System engineering and electrical engineering
    • Concepts and specifications for vehicles and subsystem
    • Design and layout
    • Design of electrical circuits, creation of circuit diagrams
    • Specification or evaluation of components, preparation of lists of equipment and parts for procurement
    • Production and installation drawings
    • Vehicle documentation, production documentation (e.g. documentation for wiring) and user manuals

For more complex mechanical designs and/or FEM analyses, Enotrac collaborates with accomplished partner companies. Further tasks, such as commissioning and approval, also fall within the Enotrac experts’ area of expertise.

  • The team of experienced software engineers at Enotrac develops software for rail vehicles according to EN 50657. This primarily consists of vehicle control systems (TCMS), but also door control systems or special control systems for specific customer requirements.

The experts draw on comprehensive knowledge of various hardware platforms, particularly products from the manufacturers Selectron and Siemens.

One of the largest projects to date was the software development for the vehicle control system of the HGe 4/4 II of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn.

  • Special customer requirements and needs require individual solutions. Due to the usually very project-specific requirements, these are only produced in small volumes, or even as unique products. In the past, Enotrac has designed and implemented a large number of niche electronic solutions for use on rail vehicles, including, for example, a yaw damper control, the replacement of a mechanical control box with electronic upgrade and teardown logic as part of a driver’s cab modernisation and even an interference current monitoring system.

The products developed by Enotrac are type-tested and comply with all relevant railway-specific standards such as EN 50155 (electronic equipment on rail vehicles), EN 61373 (oscillations and shocks), EN 50121-3-2 (EMC) and EN 45545 (fire protection). Enotrac has a long-standing partnership with Telma AG who support the production of these electronic products.

  • Enotrac has a highly specialised software development team that is primarily dedicated to the development of in-house applications such as the FABEL simulation software. In special cases, however, Enotrac’s software engineers also apply their skills in customer projects. These are usually niche projects and special solutions that require a strong scientific, mathematical background and specific knowledge of the railway system. Enotrac provides all services from requirements engineering, programming and testing to operation of the software. Enotrac is not a classic software development company, but is supported by accomplished partner companies for larger projects. This means that customers can also rely on the usual high quality of Enotrac’s services in this area.

A prominent example is Switzerland’s national vehicle register, which Enotrac developed for the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) and has been operating as the register manager for many years.

Reference projects

  • Conversion of the train protection to ZSI 127

SIEMENS Switzerland has been commissioned by the Morges - Bière - Cossonay (MBC) railway company to replace the train protection system in all vehicles on the Bière – Apples – Morges railway line.

  • Refit of SBB passenger carriage doors

As part of an extensive refit project, the doors of passenger carriages that are over 30 years old are to be modernised. The IFE door system will be used, which will be integrated electrically and mechanically.

  • Modernisation of locomotive HGe 4/4 II of the MGB

The Matterhorn Gotthard Railway is modernising the HGe 4/4 II locomotive, whose bodywork dates back to the 1990s. After the refit, the drive train and electrics will be equivalent to those of a modern locomotive.
