About the project
The current network is powered through four substations, all of which are nearing the end of their service life. The Limoges Métropole Urban Community, leading the project, aimsto take advantage of the upcoming renewal of these substations to expand its network and propose a new reconfiguration of its commercial lines..
The five existing trolleybus lines will be reorganised into four new lines, complemented by two high-level service bus lines with a fast charging at the terminuses. The current trolleybus fleet consists three types of vehicles (including one type with dynamic charging). The vehicles without batteries will be entirely replaced by dynamic charging trolleybuses.
The changes brought about by this expansion project will require a complete overhaul of the existing supply network, including an assessment of whether to maintain certain sections of the contact line, particularly in the city centre
Our contribution
Enotrac first modelled the current Limoges trolleybus network (as of 2024) using its Fabel software tool, and verified the sizing of the existing installations for normal operation scenarios (with all substations in service), as well as for degraded modes with one or more substations out of service..
Based on this initial model, future modificationswere incorporated to determine the overall architecture of future power supply network, specifically addressing the following aspects:
- The number, location, and characteristics of new traction substations
- The sections of contact lines that can be removed
- The robustness of the network, particularly in degraded modes
- The battery capacity required for the new vehicles
