About the project

The renewal of the traction power switching station and the overhead contact line system is a complex infrastructure project involving both electrical engineering and railway operational considerations. In the alpine environment of the southern Lötschberg ramp, natural hazards such as rockfall and avalanches also have to be taken into account.

The project aims to ensure the long-term reliability, availability and efficiency of the traction power supply system, both during normal operation and throughout the construction phase. As all works are carried out while railway services remain in operation, careful planning and close coordination among all project stakeholders are essential to minimise operational impacts and maintain a high level of safety and service quality.

Our contribution

Enotrac assumed the role of general planner throughout all project phases, from initial design through to commissioning. The Enotrac team is responsible for technical planning, interdisciplinary coordination, and the preparation of tender documentation.

Following the award of the construction contracts, Enotrac delivers the detailed design for the overhead contact line system and the switchgear installations, provides technical support during the implementation of the overhead line and civil engineering works, and acts as the local site manager for the substation conversion and commissioning activities.

Drawing on its extensive expertise in railway power supply and overhead contact line systems, Enotrac plays a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of the project, helping to achieve a reliable, efficient and future-ready infrastructure solution.
