About the project

The approximately 22-kilometre-long Solothurn–Moutier railway line featured largely outdated engineering structures and railway technical installations, and required modernisation at stations, stops and engineering structures. Similarly, the existing traction power supply systems no longer met today’s requirements for reliability and performance.

As part of a comprehensive infrastructure project, the traction power systems on the Solothurn West–Moutier line were completely renewed, with the exception of the Langendorf, Lommiswil and Crémines stations. In parallel, the line underwent a modernisation: track systems, engineering structures and several stations and stops were renewed and adapted to current requirements. A particular focus was also placed on implementing accessible solutions in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act (BehiG)

A key element of the project was the refurbishment of the approximately 3.7-kilometre-long Weissenstein Tunnel. The work in the tunnel was technically demanding and characterised by challenging geological conditions. As part of the modernisation, the Weissenstein Tunnel was fitted with a new rigid overhead conductor rail.

Our contribution

Enotrac prepared the tender for the traction current system, and supported the BLS in the procurement of qualified contractors for the refurbishment. The focus was on a cost-effective, sustainable and reliable traction power system

During the construction phase, Enotrac acted as the client’s representative and provided construction supervision for the traction power system. In this role, we ensured the professional, high-quality and timely implementation of the planned measures. This included supervising the installation work, coordinating the project stakeholders and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and specifications.

Through our involvement, we were able to make a significant contribution to the successful completion of this complex infrastructure project.
