Safety Management
Safety management is an essential part of addressing safety-critical aspects in various industries. It encompasses various key factors that are summarised under the term RAMSS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety, Security). Enotrac has established itself as a reliable and experienced partner in all these areas. Our experts have extensive experience gained in numerous projects, ranging from major infrastructure projects such as the Lötschberg (LBT), Gotthard (GBT) and Ceneri (CBT) base tunnels in the new transalpine rail routes (NEAT) to the development of complete vehicles and important components such as speed sensors.
Holistic safety planning
In the role of safety manager, Enotrac takes on the holistic safety planning during the development or procurement of safety-critical systems. We work closely with our customers’ project teams and offer a wide range of services in safety management. These include risk and hazard analyses as well as CSM analyses in accordance with EU 402/2013. Safety and approval plans also play a crucial role in the realisation of safety-critical systems.

Enotrac is passionate about safety and committed to making a difference. Our comprehensive support and highly qualified teams are instrumental in ensuring that your projects meet the highest safety standards and are successfully implemented. We are proud to be a reliable partner for safety management and to support our customers in all safety-related matters.
Complying with strict regulations
We take compliance with strict regulations in the rail transport sector extremely seriously. These include the Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI) and the Notified National Technical Rules (NNTR), including possible specific cases.
Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI)
The TSIs are agreed requirements designed to ensure interoperability in rail transport. They are binding in the European Economic Area and Switzerland and apply to high-speed and conventional rail systems, as well as extended national rail networks. The TSIs define the requirements for structural and functional subsystems to enable a seamlessly usable rail system.
Notified National Technical Rules (NNTRs)
The NNTV are essential, especially for projects involving safety-critical systems in rail transport. The Eisenbahn-Bundesamt (EBA) is responsible for creating and updating these regulations. The NNTV list is created in collaboration with relevant industry stakeholders and submitted to the EBA and the EU Commission in accordance with EU requirements. In the future, all NNTV lists will be gradually transferred to the RDD, from where they will be derived. These regulations are crucial for the conformity assessment and approval of safety-critical systems in rail transport.
The NNTV govern the requirements for safety-critical systems in rail transport, supplementing the TSI regulations and national regulations. We take care to fully comply with the NNTV standards and regulations. In this way, we help to maintain safety in rail transport and to design safety-critical systems in accordance with NNTV and TSI guidelines.
Precise analysis using professional tools
At Enotrac, we place the highest value on compliance with the strictest safety standards. We firmly believe that precise safety assessment and analysis are essential to ensure the highest possible safety in our projects. To do this, we rely on professional analysis tools that enable in-depth and precise identification of hazards, the search for solutions, and decision-making as part of safety management.
Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
FMEA analysis, which stands for ‘Failure Mode and Effects Analysis’, is a central tool in our safety management. This method is used to systematically analyse failures and their effects on a system. It enables us to identify possible causes of failures and prioritise them. This is crucial as it allows us to identify potential weaknesses in products or processes at an early stage, before they lead to problems. FMEA analysis is a preventive tool that enables us to take targeted measures to avoid errors and minimise risks. By systematically applying this method, we significantly increase the safety of our projects.
Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) is another indispensable method that we use in our safety management. This technique enables the systematic identification of possible failures that could cause a system to fail. The fault tree analysis involves a detailed examination of potential causes of failure in order to gain a comprehensive overview of a system’s security. Interdisciplinary teams from different departments are involved in the process to ensure objective and well-founded results. The fault tree analysis enables us to understand the potential causes of failure and to develop appropriate measures for error prevention. This helps us to identify and manage potential hazards at an early stage.
The application of these professional analysis tools is at the heart of our safety strategy. We rely on thorough and comprehensive analysis to ensure that our projects meet the highest safety standards. This enables us to effectively manage potential hazards and risks and maximise safety in our projects. Our approach is designed to increase safety in our projects while ensuring that projects run smoothly.
Consistent adherence to industry standards
Enotrac places great emphasis on strict adherence to the relevant standards, in particular EN 50126, EN 50128/EN 50657, and EN 50129, and the associated guidelines. These standards are of paramount importance for safety and quality in the railway industry.
EN 50126 is a central standard that deals with the definition and verification of RAMS (reliability, availability, maintainability, safety) in all railway applications at all levels and throughout the entire life cycle. It forms the basic framework for the safety requirements in rail transport.
EN 50128 is a specialised European standard for safety-related software in the railway industry. It covers both the trackside and the train-borne aspects and is part of the EN 61508 family of standards. EN 50128 defines clear processes, principles and measures to be applied in the development of safety-critical software to ensure safety.
In conjunction with EN 50129, which relates to hardware and approval processes, these standards form a significant part of the safety standards in rail transport. They include important principles such as top-down design, modularity, continuous verification, clear documentation and traceability, validation, assessment, and organisational and competence issues.
These standards must be continuously updated and strictly adhered to, not only to ensure the quality of our work, but also to guarantee the reliability and success of rail transport. Consistent adherence to these standards is the foundation for the high safety and efficiency of the entire industry. Enotrac is committed to meeting these standards in all our projects.
Comprehensive training and integration of safety aspects into working practices
Training and integrating safety aspects into working practices is a central concern at Enotrac. We understand that safety is of the utmost importance in the rail industry, and we do everything we can to put this understanding into practice. Our training courses are designed to give participants an in-depth understanding of all aspects of safety management. We cover a wide range of topics to ensure that our students are not only trained in the fundamentals of safety management, but also in the legal aspects relevant to safety management systems (SMS).
Our training courses start with a solid foundation by explaining the basics of safety management. This includes the important principles that make up an SMS and how it is structured. We cover the crucial terms and concepts so that our participants can develop a comprehensive understanding of the material. However, we do not limit ourselves to theoretical knowledge. Our training courses place a strong emphasis on practical application so that participants are able to integrate what they have learned into their daily work. It is important to us that safety aspects are not only understood but also actively put into practice.
At Enotrac, we are proud to be a reliable partner for safety management. Our expertise and many years of experience enable us to successfully implement safety-critical projects. We always have a strong awareness of quality and set standards in the field of safety management. Our comprehensive expertise and commitment to your safety make us your trusted partner in all matters of safety management.
