About the project
The Caledonian Sleeper is an overnight travel service connecting London with various destinations in Scotland. The operating company Serco Group plc. commissioned the Spanish rolling stock manufacturer Compañia Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, S.A. (CAF) with delivery of the new Caledonian Sleeper passenger coaches of type Mark 5.
The 16 carriage trains, which can accommodate 5 different types of carriages, are now being tested for compatibility with the existing infrastructure in Great Britain.
Our contribution
In recent years, Enotrac has worked with CAF on similar projects, including the Class 397 on the TransPennine Express, the Class 331 on the Northern Line, the Class 196 on the West Midlands Railway and for new trains for the DLR (Docklands Light Railway). The Enotrac experts were therefore able to draw on extensive know-how and experience in this project.
For the Caledonian Sleeper, extensive studies were planned and carried out to prove electromagnetic compatibility with the existing infrastructure of Network Rail and other neighbouring railways. The focus was on compatibility with the different safety installations along the planned route between London and different destinations in Scotland.
