Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn SZU AG was preparing its maintenance management system for certification as an Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM). Enotrac supported SZU in addressing the identified areas for improvement. The focus was on competence management and supplier management as well as processes relating to safety-critical components and maintenance activities.
Preparing SZU’s maintenance management system for ECM certification
SZU was preparing for the certification of its maintenance management system in accordance with Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/779. A gap analysis carried out beforehand identified various non-conformities and areas for improvement. Particular attention was required in the areas of competence management for rolling stock maintenance, supplier qualification and performance monitoring, as well as the management of safety-critical components and activities.
To ensure successful certification, existing processes were reviewed against regulatory requirements, and the identified gaps systematically addressed. The goal was to establish robust, traceable and practical processes that would withstand audit scrutiny while strengthening the readiness and effectiveness of all four ECM functions.
Our services in preparation for ECM certification
Enotrac provided technical and methodological support to the SZU project Team in preparing for ECM certification. The aim was to ensure compliance with the regulatory requirements while further strengthening key maintenance and management processes.
The services included:
- Reviewing and optimizing the competence management system for rolling stock maintenance.
- Assessing compliance with ECM requirements and identifying areas requiring corrective action.
- Reviewing and enhancing supplier management processes for safety-critical products, services, and activities.
- Improving procedures for supplier evaluation, qualification, contracting, and performance monitoring.
- Providing methodological support for the development and revision of processes related to safety-critical components and maintenance activities.
- Preparing, facilitating, and moderating topic-specific workshops with relevant stakeholders.
All processes and associated documentation were developed and revised under SZU’s responsibility. Enotrac acted as an independent expert advisor, supported the organisation through process reviews, best practice recommendations and methodological guidance to ensure effective implementation of ECM requirements.
