About the project
At the beginning of 2020, the Bavarian State Ministry of Housing, Building and Transport (StMB) commissioned a feasibility study into the Nuremberg regional rail expansion programme (AuSbauNü). The aim of the study was to develop an overall infrastructure extension strategy for the Nuremberg region.
As part of this assignment, Enotrac, as a subcontractor of SMA und Partner AG, studied three different lines, currently not electrified, with a view to the use of battery-powered hybrid vehicles:
- Wicklesgreuth – Windsbach
- Dombühl – Wilburgstetten (reactivation)
- Steinach – Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Enotrac has already carried out a comprehensive feasibility study on the use of battery hybrid and hydrogen battery vehicles in the north-east Bavaria region.
Our contribution
Our Enotrac team prepared an expert report and determined the infrastructure measures needed to enable robust, punctual and undisturbed passenger transport on the three lines mentioned to the west of Nuremberg. In addition to the technical aspects, the investment costs and the time required for planning and implementation were also determined, and a feasibility assessment was carried out.
Network simulations with dynamic load flow calculations of the rail system under consideration were carried out using our Fabel simulation tool.
