Focus on energy supply

Conversion from diesel buses to electric trolleybuses

In a recently published article in the Electrosuisse Bulletin, Julien Coppex, our energy supply team leader from the Lausanne office,  describes the transition from diesel to electric trolleybuses in Lyon. The article provides insights into the various studies that Enotrac has conducted in this context.

E-buses for Thun

Another exciting bus project is right on our doorstep. On behalf of STI Bus AG, we have developed an energy supply concept for charging e-buses. The aim is for up to 48 e-buses to be able to recharge at the headquarters in Schwäbis in the future. We are enthusiastic about the project's realisation and look forward to seeing the first e-buses driving around Thun.

New tram line between Renens and Lausanne-Flon: focus on energy supply

As part of the Lausanne-Morges infrastructure project, a new tram line is being built between Renens (VD) and Lausanne-Flon. The ELAusanne consortium, consisting of Enotrac, GESTE and AFRY, was commissioned by Transports publics de la région lausannoise (TL) to plan and implement the power supply and overhead contact line systems. Enotrac is responsible for tasks such as designing the traction current supply, specifying the rectifier stations, and coordinating with the energy plants and overhead line planning.

Tyne & Wear Metro: More safety thanks to Enotrac software

The Tyne & Wear Metro in Newcastle is undergoing extensive modernisation after more than 30 years of operation. As part of this programme, the metro company has ordered 45 new five-car vehicles from Stadler Rail. Enotrac is providing the software for the Safety Control Unit (SCU), which is responsible for safety-critical functions such as vigilance control, roll-back protection, and emergency braking. The SCU meets the highest safety standards in accordance with EN 50657 (new EN 50716) with Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2). It was developed through close cooperation between specialists at Enotrac and Stadler Rail.

Expansion of the cyber security discipline in the railway sector

As announced at the beginning of the year, we are in the process of expanding our cybersecurity services for the railway sector. We are pleased to introduce Juan Carlos Lopez Ruggiero as our new Head of IT Security. Juan Carlos brings extensive experience in IT security, with over twenty years as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and global IT security executive.

Mr Lopez Ruggiero is an expert in the development and implementation of complex IT security strategies and solutions, as well as the implementation of information security management systems (ISMS). He possesses in-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, including CySec-Rail, NIS2 and the Cyber Resilience Act.

In addition to his professional successes, Mr. Lopez Ruggiero is a lecturer in cybersecurity and data protection at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) and advises the European Union part-time on strategic cybersecurity and data protection issues.

With his profound expertise and tireless commitment, Juan Carlos Lopez Ruggiero will play a crucial role in the further development of our IT security strategies and strengthen our position as a leading provider in the field of cybersecurity for the railway sector.

In the past quarter, we were delighted to welcome several new employees, bringing our total workforce to 82 across all locations. With around 400 projects each year, there is still plenty to do. Together, we are shaping the future of mobility, and we are looking for talented individuals to join us as engineer in the areas of RAMS/functional safety, software developer for railway vehicles, or as a project engineer in the areas of energy supply design and fleet and maintenance management.

The Enotrac Summer Party 2024 was a memorable event. We celebrated in glorious summer weather at the Hotel Restaurant Seepark in Thun. Over drinks, we toasted our successes and the dedication of our entire Enotrac team. Together with the partners of our employees from Thun, Lausanne and Winterthur, we spent a wonderful evening enjoying a delicious barbecue and engaging in great conversation.
