Israel Railways electrification (on behalf of Yanai)

As part of electrifying the Israeli railway network, ENOTRAC was commissioned by Yanai to provide the basis for the dimensioning of the contact wire, and the traction power provision of the 1x25 kV / 50 Hz AC substation, using FABEL network calculations. Along with the dimensioning basis, our task included the verification and adaptation of the planned feeding concept of the 420 km long railway network.

A further task was the appraisal of the voltages induced by the traction power network on nearby systems, such as parallel tram lines or gas pipes. For this study, we calculated and evaluated the induced voltages of various scenarios, using our simulation software SIMNET.

Israel intended that the planned 220 km route running from Be’er-Sheva to Eilat would be a high speed line. To inform the choice of traction power supply infrastructure, we compared the feeding of the line with a conventional contact wire (1x25 kV / 50 Hz) and an autotransformer-system (2x25 kV / 50 Hz) using our simulation software FABEL.
