Ceneri Base Tunnel

As a continuation of the Gotthard branch of the new transalpine axis NEAT, south of the Gotthard base tunnel, AlpTransit Gotthard is building the 15.4 km long Ceneri base tunnel. This joins Camorino (near Giubiaso) and Vezia (north of Lugano) to the existing SBB lines with two single-track tubes designed for a speed up to 250 km/h.

As partner within the consortium “IG GoTTrazione” ENOTRAC is, as the project engineer for traction power supply, responsible for all installations pertaining to the power supply 16.7 Hz, particularly the overhead line, the earthing and bonding and the contact wire switch posts including their control and remote control.

As a basis for these installations, a first design and planning round was conducted as part of the scope of the construction project. Thereby, the requirements for the performance were determined by means of load flow calculations. Furthermore, the interfaces with the various disciplines and other specialists were defined. Additionally, a general earthing concept was created for tracks in the tunnels and the open. On this basis, the specifications and requirements for the invitations to tender of the traction power supply traction were created.
