RhB Berninabahn power supply upgrade

ENOTRAC assessed the 1000 V DC power supply for Bernina line St. Moritz – Tirano for various new rolling stock options. The study considered:

  • Loadings on rectifiers, transformers, switches, feeders, devices and protection
  • Overhead wiring load
  • Line voltage stability
  • Train performance (running time, speed and acceleration profile)
  • Energy consumption

Following the study, ENOTRAC supported RhB with the implementation of reinforcement measures, including the construction of additional rectifier stations and earthing and bonding system. ENOTRAC took over the project management for the rectifiers in Morteratsch and St. Moritz and the voltage-controlled rectifier substation in Campocologno.

Extensive test and measurement runs were conducted in order to validate the implemented reinforcement measures.

Furthermore, ENOTRAC provided technical support to RhB for the evaluation and implementation of stray currents reduction measures.
