Measurements during commissioning of the new depot Bolligenstrasse of BERNMOBIL

During commissioning and testing of the new BERNMOBIL depot, voltages of an unknown origin occurred while starting the vehicles and during short circuit tests. These voltages caused the overhead protection to trip and interfered with other equipment. BERNMOBIL commissioned ENOTRAC to determine the causes of these high voltages through measurement, and to carry out measurements during acceptance tests.

As a first step, power supply measurements were performed. In this study, voltage and current were measured at the output conductors of the depot rectifier.

Measurements of the infrastructure had shown the vehicles were the most likely cause of the problem. The performance of both new and old vehicles was tested, in particular when starting under different network conditions.

During the commissioning and testing of a new depot of BERNMOBIL, ENOTRAC conducted loading tests to demonstrate that the overhead line equipment in the depot is adequately rated for the worst-case conditions when trams are leaving in the morning.
